April 13, 2021

When it comes to disrupting entire industries and building transformative customer experiences you have to have an exceptional team who can and build these products at pace. Our team at gravity9 are just that, highly skilled, driven, passionate and fun to work with. This month we continue our Meet the gravity9'ers series with the introduction of Senior Consultant Business Analyst, Majid Malik. Here is what Majid had to say when posed with his nine questions.

1.     What is your role at gravity9?

My official title is Senior Consultant Business Analyst so there are two parts to the role. The consultancy part of the role comes down to helping build the business expand into new markets as well as consulting on new products, services, and partnerships. For client projects I also advise on strategy and operations. The business analyst element is where I am more active and involved in the day-to-day client work, looking at processes, dealing with stakeholders, eliciting client requirements, communicating with the development team and process/ data analysis.

 2.     What do you enjoy most about working at gravity9?

I’m still quite new at gravity9  haven't yet had the exposure that I know I'm going to get but, so far, I’ve really enjoyed the team ethos. I work with a great bunch of people who have a similar attitude and ambitions; it's always good when you work with like-minded people.

 3.     What one piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in your line of work?

Keep up with the times. What I do changes so much on a weekly/monthly basis so you have to keep up with the technology. As an analyst you are required to move from improving the process to understanding technology, as well as having knowledge on the likes of Bitcoin and Blockchain. So ensure you read the articles, sign up to the latest information and stay up to date with what's going on.

 4.     What can’t you start your day without?

A cup of tea, I have to have a cup of tea otherwise I will not function.

 5.     What do you do in your spare time?

Spare time is mostly focused on football. Since I’ve been young, I am either playing or watching. I am a huge Villa fan so if Villa are playing, I'll be looking to watch that or any other football I can find. I also do a lot of charity work including fundraising for fund raisers international charities.  I work closely with charities supporting children including some orphanages. I am also a school governor, looking after structures that monitor mental well-being for both the schoolchildren and the teachers.

6.     What was the last movie you watched?

I’m not really into movies I'm more of a TV show kind of guy. I haven't watched a movie in a long time, I prefer the boxsets on Netflix or Amazon. I'm currently watching Vikings on Amazon Prime, however, the last ones I completed were Billions and House of Cards on Netflix.

7.     What special skill or talent do you have other than what you do for a living?

I’ve got a keen eye for detail and I'm quite creative, which you wouldn’t usually associate with a Business Analyst. I can't actually draw but when it comes to photography and video production, I really enjoy working on the creative vision. I have been involved in creating music videos for singers and promo videos for boxers, I always provide the creative direction on how the videos should look and feel, not what you’d expect from an Analyst!

8.     Where would your dream holiday be?

That’s interesting as travelling is my biggest passion. I have travelled quite a bit but my dream holiday would have to include more than one country. I would start in China because of the ancient cities, see the Great Wall and the natural beauty of the country. Then I’d go to Tokyo for the city life and the contrast going from the ancient world into the future. Then I’d travel to the jungle in Bali before ending up on a beach somewhere like Bora Bora to relax for a few days after my jungle trek.

9.     What is the last song you had stuck in your head?

Probably Sam Martin, Bring me Home, I don’t know why I must have heard it on a TV show or something?
